Born Again Runner

Nether Providence Race for First Responders

Race Date:
Saturday, October 20, 2007 - 9:30am
Race Location:
Nether Providence, PA

After taking 2 weeks off from running, I remembered I had this race coming up. That got me running again.

The whole family was there: Popper, Mom, Uncle Adrian, Jen and Maddie. Jen, Maddie and Mom participated in the walk and Popper, Uncle Adrian and I tackled the 5k.

Popper and Uncle Adrian have been racing for a while. This was just my 2nd 5k since high school (15 years ago). The course was pretty flat, and we started out pretty fast...well, fast for me. I felt good. Although I'm sure EVERYONE feels good in the first mile...it's the remaining 2.1 that are killer.

I think mile 1 was completed in 8:10?? Mile 2 may have been a bit faster. I can't imagine mile 3 being much faster than miles 1 & 2, since I was barely alive at that point, but it must've been, given the fact that my race pace was 7:57.

In that last mile, I kept looking at my watch to see how much distance we had left...it was brutal.

Lesson learned: pace is key!!!

Overall, a good run and a really great event. Good food and lots of prizes!

Time:
24:41
Pace:
7:57
